I took a trip to Chicago last year and somehow forgot to make a post. That's no surprise since I seem to have forgotten to make posts for 3 months now. Thanks to those of you who kept prodding me about the lack of updates. |

I was going to write a decent entry to say this but the scum don't deserve that much more of my time. Even with an anti-spam plug-in, comment spam has become such a daily hassle that I'm just turning off comments on my older entries.
It shouldn't impact the people who already know of this site but until I take the time to implement stronger measures, I will get no more comments on older posts from new visitors. I hope you spammers get a karmic boomerang in the pants for intentionally soiling something that doesn't belong to you.

The Big Game

Lately it seems that the University of Toledo is the big rival of every MAC football opponent it comes up against. (at least to the other teams) I suppose it's because Toledo is perennially the team to beat if you want to win the West Division. This past Tuesday continued the most heated "true rivalry" in the conference, against BGSU. As if that wasn't enough, the stakes were raised by having the divisional championship and a bowl game on the line for the Toledo seniors' last home (and nationally televised - ESPN2) game. |

It's hard to be a Toledo Rocket fan in this city. With the proximity to other major schools like Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame sometimes it's hard to even find a t-shirt. For a long time, I'd been looking for a nice aerial shot of our stadium, like the kind you see in poster shops everywhere but as far as I could tell, none existed. Earlier this season, I met up with Pat Ryan a hugely dedicated fan who was just as frustrated as I was about the situation and we decided to remedy the situation ourselves. |

After a lengthy refurbishment, the Rocket has been returned to its perch outside the Glass Bowl at the University of Toledo.

In 1961, the U.S. Army donated a decommissioned Nike Ajax anti-aircraft missile to the University of Toledo. After 43 years standing guard outside the Glass Bowl, UT Alumnus Pat Ryan noticed it was clearly in need of some work. He decided it was time for the icon to get a facelift. After making some calls Ryan found Paul grabke, a fellow veteran, at Steve Grabke's Body Shop who agreed to not only restore and paint the missile but also provide time and effort free of charge. So far, a body man/painter at the shop has been working on it full time for a month. In total, over $1,500 in materials have been donated for what Grabke estimated would have been a $6,000 to $7,000 project. The painting should be finished Thursday, Sept. 15 and the missile is slated to be returned to its perch on Monday, in plenty of time for the UT home opener against Temple. |
